The fox went out on a chilly night

Black Gold

Today we topped off many of the raised beds with a composted soil purchased from our local landscaping supply business. It's black and rich looking, and has the subtle odor of manure. Expecting good things from this addition!

I'm taking a chance and using up seeds that I have accumulated over the past several years. They look good. Hope they germinate. If not, I'll try again.

Planted three rows of beets. Two varieties, both round and red:

Just over one month later, and look at this! About half the early-sown sugar snaps germinated and are growing. I'll fill in the empty spaces with a second planting.
