Steady Increase in Egg Production

Wow!  Egg production is steadily picking up.  Over the weekend I started getting 5 or 6 eggs daily.  That's from 11 hens... the original 9 Dominics and the 2 young Barred Rocks.  Looks like the young hens have started to lay, too.  I've seen a few smaller, browner, eggs with more speckles that I'm assuming are theirs.

No wonder eggs became associated with Easter. By the time that spring holiday rolls around, the nests will be full of eggs!

Longer days lead to fresh eggs in the hen house...

It's the middle of January.  Not much is happening in the garden, although we are enjoying the fresh salad and cooking greens that winter over here.  There hasn't been much happening in the chicken house, either!  As the winter days got shorter and shorter, egg production gradually went down to nothing in the first couple weeks of January.  It began to pick up again last week.  First, one egg per day.  Now, I'm getting 2 eggs per day.  Another reason to love the sunshine!
