Jump Start!

I am getting a jump on the growing season! With a lot of help from son, Andrew, and special friend, Brittany, we are sowing seeds indoors, anticipating the growth of seedlings that will be ready to go into the ground at the ideal time. Officially known as seed starting, we have filled trays with dirt, planted tiny seeds, watered them in, and are now waiting with great expectation of a fabulous harvest.

The best candidates for seed starting are plants that can tolerate root disturbance and will benefit from an early start, including eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, herbs such as parsley and basil ... and squash. We do intend to outsmart the squash bugs this year with an early crop!

Seeds are easy to start indoors ... IF you have the ability to provide the proper conditions. We don't really have that at our house. But we do have connections. Andrew works at a local greenhouse. They've given him permission to house our flats of baby plants in a bit of their space. These seedlings will certainly be living under ideal temperature and moisture conditions.

Anticipation ... Seeds Ordered

The other night, Andrew and I pored over Johnny's Selected Seeds catalog. We compiled a very long list of seed packets to order. I've decided my eyes are bigger than my garden!

Nevertheless, I placed that order today. The upcoming season looks beautiful and bountiful in our daydreams!
